Vote for BHS Science Teacher Molly Heath!

Vote for Burlington High School Teacher Molly Heath for the Lawrence W. O'Toole Award from the Nellie Mae Education Foundation!

From the foundation website:

"An early adopter of proficiency-based learning at Burlington High School, Molly Heath has transformed her science classes into learning laboratories, where students must demonstrate mastery of content before moving on. Heath has inspired her colleagues to shift towards a proficiency-based, student-centered approach. Molly first shifted her chemistry classrooms to a proficiency-based model in 2014, and the student performance results were outstanding! The class average on their final test was a full 10 points higher than on any other test."

Congratulations, Molly, and thank you for your inspiring work!

YES Video Contest

The challenge: Make a video that draws the most views!

Students in the BHS YES (Year End Studies) program called 'Viral Video' took that challenge to plan, film, edit, publish and then market their videos to draw the most views. It's a tough challenge in a very short time frame.

Pass video links on to friends... the clip with the 'most views' wins the contest!

Authentic Collaboration with Champlain College and Burlington Company

Last week, Burlington Company "Game Theory" BHS and Champlain College students worked together in the Programming class. The goal was to assist in developing a computer game that teaches about conflict resolution. BHS students learned about:
1. Conflict Resolution Theory
2.  "Paper Prototyping" as beginning stages of game creation.

The activity in the picture below was designed to reveal errors in the mechanics of the game. It is important step before the game goes into a production phase.
